mohdoh

mohdoh - Mouldable Aromatherapy

mohdoh is a clever combination of aromatherapy, colour therapy and play therapy.  Suitable for both adults and children it is a great way to deal with everyday ailments without having to take endless medication or stimulants.

As the dough is manipulated (or played with) it releases essential oils which are absorbed into the body.  People say that stroking an animal can help against stress ... well playing and moulding moudoh has the same affect, you don't have to think about it, you just play with it.

Its not a dough that you have to be artistic to use, its not for making shapes or animals out of, its to mould and massage.  Whilst you are using the dough it can lower your stress levels as the squidgy feel has a calming soothing effect.

For each ailment there is a different moudoh:
Slim
Sleep
Travel
Unwind
Calm
Think
Quit
Breathe

How mohdoh works:

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy treatments are effective in dealing with minor ailments, skin problems and in particular stress or emotional difficulties. It is a valuable preventative therapy which keeps us well balanced emotionally and physically, reducing the chances of a serious illness occurring.
All the essential oils used in mohdoh are blended by aromatherapy specialist Penny Price.

Play Therapy

Through the use of play and arts and crafts techniques, chronic, mild and moderate psychological and emotional conditions can be alleviated. These conditions can cause behavioural problems and/or prevent children from realising their full potential.

Colour Therapy

Colour therapy is a holistic and non-intrusive form of healing, which introduces the optimum balance of colour energies into the human organism in order to promote harmony between the body, mind and spirit.

Colour has a profound effect on us on all levels; physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. If our energy centres (Chakras) become blocked or depleted, then our body cannot function properly and this, in turn, can lead to a variety of problems. Using the colours of the spectrum, colour therapy aims to balance and enhance our body's energy centres (Chakras) and also to help stimulate our body's own healing process.

The above sounds like a bit of hocus-pocus but it does actually work.  Colour can effect your mood, I looked into it when I was studying art.  Different smells can also effect your body and so experts use different blends to help cure or at least tone down different ailments.

The moudoh was quite tricky to get out of the pot from new, but once its out it easily moulds and you can roll it into a near on perfect ball!  Its quite a tough dough and can make your hands ache after a while, it has a rubbery consistency that makes you wonder if it would bounce if you threw if on the floor (I won't try this as I haven't hoovered yet and my carpet is covered in dog hair).

The aromatherapy oils are only released as you play with the dough, its not overpowering nor do you end up with mucky or oily hands - I have been playing with the dough and then typed without having to wipe or wash my hands.

Primavera - Eucalyptus Roll-On

Primavera - Eucalyptus Roll-On

Now I don't know about you but at the first sign of a sniffle I usually dive into my medicine box, find a small pot of 'Menthol Goo' and rub it all over my chest ... and I hate it!
Why do I hate it? I don't like the film that is spread onto my skin, I don't like the way the covers then stick to me, but most of all I don't like trying to lather-up in the shower the next day trying to get it off again.

Well Primavera have found the answer - their Eucalyptus Roll-On is a light aromatherapy blend in a bottle, you use the roll-on ball to discreetly apply the blend to your temples, back of your neck and even under your nose. The bottle is small enough to keep in your handbag or pocket and use when needed to clear congestion.

Emma liked the roll-on and I even let her take it to school (with the permission of her teacher) to keep 'topping' herself up with throughout the day. The blend isn't particularly suitable for children under 6 but as Emma is 8 I felt she was responsible enough to use the blend on her wrists (a bit like perfume).

You only need a little dab to reap in the benefits, you can mostly pick out the lavender and thyme fragrance - it isn't overpowering, just strong enough to help clear your sniffles.

Ingredients: Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Fragrance (Parfum), Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Eucalyptus Radiata Leaf Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Flower/Leaf Oil, Myrtus Communis Oil*, Tocopherol, Eugenol, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool.

The online price is £10.99 (Each).

Special Little People - Aromatherapy For Children

Special Little People - Aromatherapy For Children"What If?" Blend

"Anxiety in children is a common affliction, particularly as they get older.

We have specifically picked some of nature's most soothing oils to develop a relaxed yet positive emotional state. It combines floral and fruity tones resulting in a warming, exotic fragrance with a hint of fun!

When using What If?, explain to your child how the magic ingredients will make them feel better and stronger. Remind them to breathe deeply and steadily, then watch the smiles appear!

It is a particularly useful blend for use around school exam time."

I have been using "What If?" blend with my daughter Emma (8), she has recently been acting as if the whole world if going to end if a)she can't find her spellings book or b)they ran out of carrots at lunchtime ???

I know she is under the weather as she wakes up tired, her ears are blocked with wax (which isn't helping as the poor kid can't hear) and she has grown a HUGE wart on her foot.

Well so far so good ... the 'What if' seems to be working. I haven't told her about it (sneaky eh!) but I have been putting some on some tissue (ok loo roll) and hanging it off of the side of her bed. The aroma isn't overpowering but you can smell it a bit when you walk back into the room. She has calmed down a little, maybe it is coincidence? but she has seemed to have chilled out a bit.

Today she only got 6 in her spelling test (usually she gets upset as she struggles with spellings) but today she didn't seem to care. She actually admitted that she hadn't practiced them and was actually pleased with herself that she got 6! I congratulated her :)

She has also stopped asking stupid questions constantly, it could be that she has run out of questions ;) or that she just doesn't care about the answers any more? either way I don't mind as she was doing my head in.

I am thinking of using the 'potion' myself, will I chill out and stop yelling at the students? will I suddenly decide that rap music is cool after all and allow it to be played via a tinny sounding mobile phone in my classes? maybe ... you never know ... I'll keep in touch :)

What if? A blend to relieve anxiety - Aromatherapy to banish the wobbles!
